what is this?

A study of the impact of the Tobacco Heating System on smokers who have COPD. The P1-COPD-04-INT study is evaluating how switching to a product called the Tobacco Heating System (THS) may impact symptoms and the disease progression of early chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in smokers.

This page is for those interested in being a future candidate of a clinical research trial of an investigational tobacco product to replace traditional smoking for patients who have COPD.

Those who qualify may be compensated up to $700 for their time and travel. Benefits of this study also include Physical exams by doctors and tabacco related study supplies.

who is eligible?

An individual may qualify for the study if they:
• Are between 40 and 65 years of age;
• Have been smoking cigarettes for at least 10 years;
• Smoke a minimum of 10 cigarettes a day for at least the last year;
• Have experienced cough and sputum (symptoms of chronic bronchitis) over the past year OR
have been diagnosed with mild-to-moderate COPD; and
• Meet additional study criteria
